Akure City FC finally ended their 2019 season on high point following a 2-1 win over OSOPADEC FC in a match day eight Nationwide League One Division 1C fixture which took place at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
Although the match remains to be seen as a scrappy win for the Kaycee Boys, who had their goalkeeper to thank for saving a penalty kick during the match the team will take some positive going by what has really been a turbulent second half of the season after the points deduction episode and their scandalous 2-9 loss to Ajiroba Oni FC. The disappearance of three coaches from club duties before the close of the season also constitute a dilemma for them.
Speaking immediately after the match assistant coach Deola Oyesiji praised the boys for fighting hard to get the maximum points at stake on the final day of the season while also appealing to the aggrieved coaches to rescind their decision to leave the club saying it is time to regroup and plan ahead of next soccer season.
Captain of the day Ajayi Afolayan commended his teammates for their dogged effort at making it two wins against OSOPADEC FC while also appealing to aggrieved coaches to come back to their duty post so the team can plan for a better outing next time.
Meanwhile, the captain of the team Adebusuyi Dada who was among the players that boycotted the team’s remaining matches after the three points deducted from their win over Rising Stars said he appreciated the Chairman of the team Kingsley Ossai for his efforts at creating a platform for players in his calibre to express themselves while also begging their fans and followers to forgive them for a rather disappointing and controversial season.
Chairman of the team Kingsley Ossai appreciated all the followers and fans of the team for their support and words of encouragement during all the challenges the team faced while assuring them the team will bounce back strongly, during the next soccer season.
On whether the team will dislodge the aggrieved coaches, Kingsley Ossai said the major reason he did not approve their resignation is because he hopes to call a meeting and look for a way forward rather than create more problems for the team now that their season is finally over.
Akure City who started the season well with an away win over OSOPADEC on the opening day of the season also crashed out of the AITEO Cup where they represented the state alongside Sunshine Stars.
