Motorists and residents of Oke Aro area of Akure, Ondo State, have expressed their appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for flagging off the long-awaited dualisation of the Akure-Idanre Road, a project that is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, boost local commerce, and reduce road accidents in the area once completed.

The approval of the project, which had been anticipated for years, has been hailed as a necessary intervention that will address the many challenges faced by road users due to the road’s narrow and dilapidated state.

In an exclusive interview with Weekend Hope, Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Akure-Idanre unit, Mr. Tope Adebisi, described the flag-off of the road as “a timely intervention,” noting the years of suffering caused by the road’s poor condition.

“For years, we have suffered delays and accidents because of the narrow and dilapidated state of this road. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s decision to dualise it will not only save lives, but will also improve transportation and economic activities in the area,” Adebisi said.

Secretary of the NURTW, Oke Aro branch, Mr. Paul Yeye, also expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the union, calling the initiative “a major relief.”

“We at the NURTW in Oke Aro are very happy about this development. It’s a major relief for us and all road users,” Yeye remarked.

Also, a tricycle operator, who wished to remain anonymous, praised the project, pointing out that it would bring numerous benefits to the local community.

“When the road is expanded, more people will pass through here, which means better routes and faster deliveries. This is a blessing for all of us at Oke Aro and surrounding communities,” the operator said.

In a similar vein, Mr. Toba Adeniran, a resident of the area, emphasised that the dualisation project had the potential to drive economic growth and attract more investments into the region.

“This project will attract more investors to the area. We are thankful to Governor Aiyedatiwa for responding to the people’s needs and addressing our concerns,” Adeniran stated.

However, while the project is widely welcomed, Adeniran also appealed to the governor and the contractors to ensure the timely and smooth execution of the project, with a view to preventing any potential delays or abandonment.
