Ondo State House of Assembly member representing Akure South Constituency 1,Mr Simeon-Toluwani Borokini has commiserated with the owners of shops and houses that were affected by the fire outbreak at Ijomu- Obanla area in Akure, the state capital.
The lawmaker in company of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi and the Edemo of Akure Kingdom paid an assessment visit to the site.
Sympathising with the community and the affected traders, Borokini lamented the huge damage caused by the inferno, noting that the state government was aware of the situation and would look into it.
In averting future reoccurrence of such, the lawmaker advised residents of the community and shop owners on strict compliance with safety rules and called on the State’s Fire Service to be alive to its responsibility.
Borokini had earlier said he had taken quick steps in putting out the fire by providing about 20,000 litres of water at the scene of the inferno which eventually put out the fire.
According to him, the alternative method proved to be the only available and accessible means to put out the fire after several attempts to reach the State’s Fire Service proved abortive.
The fire outbreak which occurred at the early hours on Sunday destroyed over 20 shops and houses property and goods worth millions of naira.
The affected people however called on the government to come to their aid ,as their means of livelihood have been taken away by the fire outbreak.
