By Tola Gbadamosi

In accordance with longstanding tradition, all markets, shops, and stalls in Akure will be closed on Wednesday, 11th September 2024, to observe the annual Amole Festival.

This directive, issued by the Palace of the Deji of Akure, is a significant part of the cultural heritage of the Akure people.

The Palace, in a press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael, emphasised that this closure is mandatory for all business establishments within the Akure metropolis, with the sole exception of pharmacies, which are permitted to remain open.

The Palace further stressed the importance of compliance, instructing all Traditional Rulers and Quarter Chiefs to ensure that the observance is strictly adhered to in their respective domains.

It was also clarified that while markets and shops will be closed, the festival will not impede human or vehicular movement within the city.

The Palace expressed its gratitude to the Ondo State Government and security agencies for their continued support in upholding the cultural and traditional values of Akure.

“Akure a gbe a oo,” the statement concluded, invoking a blessing upon the town and its people.
