Akure North local government area of Ondo State has expressed its readiness to establish a yam market where people can buy the farm produce at cheaper rates directly from farmers and sell at wholesale prices to the people.
The Caretaker Chairman of the Local government, Mr Adeleye Rotimi made this known in an interview with The Hope recently.
Rotimi disclosed that the proposed yam market will be located around Ilado, after Isinigbo along Akure/Ado road.
He said the initiative was to replicate the type of yam market at Elegbeka area along Ifon road to create a selling point for farmers and yam traders, rather than the indiscriminate selling around the local government area.
He also observed that the establishment of the yam market will serve as revenue generation to help increase the internally generated revenue of the local government area and assured that it will be easily accessible to the people
According to him, the local government is finalising discussions with relevant stakeholders of the located site for the yam at Ilado, after Isinigbo junction where yams are been sold presently.
