Akure-Owena Lions Club gets 32nd President

A two-time President of Ondo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Dr. Tunde Monehin has been installed as the 32nd President of the Akure-Owena Lions Club.

He succeeded Lion Kunle Asaolu and he is to pilot the affairs of the club for the next one year and gather fund to help the less privileged in the society.

In his acceptance speech during the investiture ceremony, Monehin appealed to other members of the club for their understanding and cooperation to actualise the goals of the association during his tenure as the President.

He highlighted activities for the 2018/2019 Lions years to include distribution of food items to the less privileged, medical checkup and provision of the required drugs for the elderly, laying of foundation for Lions club house, donation for feeding of the children at orphanage homes across Ondo state.

Others are provision of school uniforms and sandals to 100 primary school children, feeding the poor at Old Garage, distribution of exercise books to 150 less privileged children, provision of eye glasses for the aged, among others.

Monehin expressed the determination of his led-executive to consciously grow the membership of the club to an unprecedented level.

Earlier, the Chairman of the investiture committee, Lion Gboyega Ajayi explained that the club affects the society through life changing programmes, and provision of grants funding opportunities to tackle large scale humanitarian challenges.

He added that Lions club safeguards the future by advocating for legislative protections at every level, adding that the club also engages youths as partners and leaders in service.

The outgone President, Kunle Ashaolu attributed his successes and achievements to the support and contributions of the members and the individuals who have passion for the needy.

The event featured presentation of awards to personalities who are committed to humanitarian services in the society, and induction of new members to the club.

The awardees were, Dr.(Mrs) Adebukola Osunyikanmi, the state President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Enikanselu Festus, an Irele-born musician, Demola Suzi and others.

The occasion was graced by the Orunja of Odigbo kingdom, Oba Rufus Akinrinmade who was the royal father of the day. Donations were made by the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom and the Deji of Akure land through their representatives.
