A 23-year-old Jumoke Kehinde, Shoprite staff in Akure was on new year eve found dead in her apartment at Kajola area along Oda-road, Akure, after allegedly taking substance suspected to be snipper.
The Hope Metro in a chat with one of the organisation’s managers who gave his name as Mr Taiwo, disclosed that Kehinde reported late to work alongside other staff on the fateful day.
He said: “It is normal that anyone who comes late should wait outside before they are allowed in and be given suspension.
“She was seen arranging her table getting ready for the day’s sales as she looked happy but later left the mall at about 11am after receiving the suspension letter.
“At about 4pm, a distress call was received in the office that she was not feeling fine. One of the management staff went to check on her.
According to the manager, Kehinde was found on the floor of her room shaking while her body was oozing with snipper odour. Although, no empty can was found anywhere as she was rushed to the hospital.
“After some time at the hospital, she was declared dead.
Speaking with some of her close colleagues who did not want their names mentioned said “they thought she took excuse for that day to get ready for an upcoming wedding that weekend, as she was one of the bridal train.
Kehinde was described as a cheerful and hard working lady.
Speaking with her cousin who pleaded to be anonymous said, “she was given suspension for coming late that day. She was told to go home. After then she went back home.
Her mother called her but she couldn’t say anything, but was crying on the phone. She kept calling her line but could not get through and sent someone to check on her. That was how we called the office and rushed her to the hospital.
He said that his cousin never showed any sign of depression. “We all know that when you come late you will be given suspension for few days without payment.
“I don’t see any reason why such issue would cause her to kill herself by committing suicide.
According to security operatives who confirmed the incident said the remains of the lady had been deposited at the UNIMED hospital mortuary.

I am totally in shock. We still discussed in the mall the day 29th. Of December. She was full of life. There was no traces of depression in her face. She was a very loving person. She even jokingly asked me for owo odun which I promised to give her when I come back from traveling. Always happy and jovial. What could have prompted her to commit suicide is still a mystery to me. Rest in peace Kenny. May God almighty grant u eternal rest.
