Alagbaka Power Company ‘ll provide uninterrupted electricity —Obe

FG grows national grid power capacity to 14,000MW. The issuance of a license to Alagbaka Power Company will empower the company to generate 4.0 MW electricity that will provide uninterrupted power to Alagbaka in Akure and its environs.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Razaq Obe disclosed this when he received members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Petroleum, Environment, Bitumen, Energy led by its Chairman, Tope Akomolafe  in his office.

While giving an overview of the Ministry, Obe affirmed that the Ministry is committed to sustainable and enduring legacy to achieve its vision.

He added that the Ministry has drafted a law on safety standards which is expected to be forwarded to the Assembly so as to proactively ensure control.

He said the ministry was able to resolve the way leave issues of the Benin-North Osogbo 330KV double circuit transmission line with its sub-station at Oba-Ile which has attained 95 percent completion.

He said signing of MOU to tackle barrier limiting growth of off-grid sector which will help to boost the electricity capacity, creating a sustainable map for the state on renewable energy among others were parts of the achievements of the ministry.

He informed that the license on bitumen was recently renewed for the State, stating that the best they could do is to create an enabling environment for investors to tap it.

The Commissioner said that the State is richly endowed with abundant mineral resources that have diverse industrial application to have multiplier effect for more development.

The House Committee described energy and mineral resources as major catalysts to economic development in the country.

The lawmakers particularly commended the efforts of the Commissioner at injecting new ideas and innovation into the system and the progress made so far, promising to give legislative backings to the Ministry in order to achieve the set goal.

While maintaining that the Ministry is very vital to the society considering its activities, the Committee said the Management should avail them with their policy plan to know areas of intervention.
