Aluko crowned Ejemu of Iyin-Ekiti

The quiet town of Iyin Ekiti is currently a beehive of traditional activities as Dr. Temitope Olaiya Kolawole Aluko is crowned the Ejemu of Iyin Ekiti.
Dr. Aluko, popularly known as TKO by his business and political associates, has observed the cultural rites and rituals attached to the title and will officially change his regalia as all the paraphernalia associated with the position are presented to him.
The Ibedoyin Quarters of Iyin Ekiti has been agog with numerous activities since the Chief went into cultural hibernation, while guests and well-wishers were treated to seven days of continuous feasting.
The astute and foremost politician and business mogul shared insights into the journey that led him to assume the traditional seat of his ancestors:
“I was not expecting to be called to wear this shoe of my forefathers. I was summoned by the head of the Aluko family, who said God had revealed that I am the next Ejemu of Iyin and that I should go and prepare. I was a bit shocked because I am not the oldest person in our clan, but since the entire family agreed that I should be crowned, I had no choice but to answer the divine call.”
Speaking on behalf of the Aluko family, the head of the family, Elder Sunday Oladotun, explained that the “Ejemu” chieftaincy is an age-old title that dates back to the history of the Ibedoyin, and the rites follow the culture and norms of the clan.
“Our street was formerly called Imogun before we moved to this present site, where the name was changed to Ibedoyin Quarters, with other sub-quarters making up the area. However, this title is exclusive to our family, the Alukos,” he stated.
Elder Oladotun added that ascension to the title is not determined by age, but the Ejemu must be someone found worthy in character, known for good deeds, and well respected in society.
“The position is very important and is rooted in tradition. The Ejemu must be accommodating — that is one of the key qualities he must possess. Dr. Tope is the head that the crown truly fits. He has long been a symbol of honour in our family, so this title is a compliment to his personality. On behalf of the family, I pray that God, in His infinite mercy, will continue to support him. We in the Aluko family are very excited.”
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Iyin Ekiti, His Royal Majesty Oba Adeniyi Ajakaye, confirmed the coronation during a courtesy visit by some palace high chiefs to the newly installed chief at his residence in Ibedoyin Ekiti.
The chiefs, led by Asolo and Abalusi, delivered the Kabiyesi’s congratulatory message to the new chief.
Oba Ajakaye described Dr. Temitope Aluko as a good son of the soil. He noted that the family’s unanimous support was a testament to his good deeds within the family and the wider community. He prayed that the town would continue to experience development as Dr. Aluko steps into the role of his ancestors.
