Aluko lampoons Obasanjo over call for election cancellation

An elder statesman, Chief Femi Aluko, has lampooned former President Olusegun Obasanjo, for calling for cancellation of the Saturday’s general elections.

The octogenarian equally flayed Chief Obasanjo over his comment that there was danger looming ahead over the elections that had already been conducted, saying that there is no danger looming or tension building up at all.

Chief Aluko called on the former president to be very careful, and always act like a statesman and not a destroyer of the nation’s democracy.

It would be recalled that Obasanjo had on Monday written President Muhammadu Buhari to, among other things, call for cancellation of elections and warned against the danger looming ahead.

But in a swift reaction,  Chief Aluko explained that Obasanjo’s letter to President  Buhari is for selfish interest.

The elder statesman said Obasanjo lacks moral right to call for cancellation of election because he has a candidate he is supporting.

“There is no danger looming ahead at all, as far as I’m concerned by the grace of God. What was Obasanjo’s role when he was president for two-term?  What was his own success? Did he achieve any success?

“Obasanjo has a candidate he is supporting. He is rooting for Obi. How can somebody who has a candidate he is supporting write the president asking for cancellation of election? This is rubbish. He should allow the process to run successfully.

“Everybody knew Obasanjo’s third term agenda and his role. Have you forgotten the way he was struggling to have the third term? People should ask him questions.

“Obasanjo should be acting like a statesman and not a destroyer. No one should call for cancellation of this election, no one should call for the destruction of this country. At my age now, I’m only praying for this country, I can’t call for cancellation of election.

“We have laboured for this country and we don’t want anybody to destroy it. We are praying for the survival of our country.

“So, it is very dangerous to be calling for cancellation of election at this moment. So Obasanjo should be very careful”, Aluko stressed.
