Part time legislature has been described as  way out of overbloated and expensive  presidential system of government in the country.

A Chieftain of the Pan Yoruba Socio-Cultural group, Afenifere, Chief Femi Aluko and a legal practitioner, Barr. Charles Titiloye, said that the part time legislature in Nigeria will usher in a new order that will make presidential government less expensive if implemented in Nigeria.

They stated this in separate interviews with The Hope, yesterday in Akure.

Lending credence to his call, Aluko, noted that lawmakers particularly at the National Assembly receives huge amount of money as allowance.

He noted that any move to implement part time legislature will be difficult unless Nigerians hold lawmakers at all levels to ransom.

According to him, “there must be drastic measure  by  the country otherwise we will fall into trouble.

“The lawmakers at all levels should be made part time and if this is done, the country will be better for it.

“Every sector is corrupt in the country. Lawmakers have opened their eyes to wealth and for them to return to part time will be difficult unless Nigerians hold them to ransom.

“Nigerians destiny is in their own hands. They should know that no member of the National Assembly will vote for part time because of  what they stand to lose.

Aluko, who was a former member of the State House of Assembly in 1983 explained that members of the Houses of Assembly in those days were  matured, experienced and retired workers.

He lamented the rate at which the present members of the State Houses of Assembly  were dominated by fresh graduates without any previous working experience.

“Before, l contested for the House of Assembly, l had already worked for 25 years before l became  a school principal of a grammar school,” he explained.

On his part, a Legal Practitioner, Barr. Charles Titiloye, suggested that lawmakers should be on part time basis with payment of allowance for their sittings.
