Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed ‘Amotekun Corps’, have dragged three suspects before an Akure Magistrate Court over alleged kidnapping.
The suspects; Yusuf Hussain, Abdukareem Isa and Felix Oluwarotimi, were brought to court on three counts charge bothering on conspiracy and kidnapping.
The prosecuting counsel, D.G. Durotolu, informed the court that the defendants committed the offences from April to October 2023, between Ado-Ekiti, Owo road and Akure, in Akure South Local Government Area of the state.
The defendants were alleged to have conspired to commit felonious offences like armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.
Durotolu said the defendants and their accomplices at large, precisely on April 18, at Ago-Oyinbo at about 3:30 pm in Akure North local government area of the state, kidnapped one Kareem Musa and demanded a ransom.
He stated that the offences contravened Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006; Section 2 ,3(ii)(b) and 4 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010.
The plea of the defendants were not taken due to the nature of the offences.
Through an application, Durotolu urged the court to remand the defendants at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the issuance of advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Counsels to the defendants, Lawrence Ejiofor and Kehinde Osadugba, prayed the court for an adjournment to enable the defence reply to the application on points of law.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, ordered that the defendant to be remanded at the Amotekun custody.
He adjourned the case till November 14, 2023, for reply and ruling on the remand application.
