Amotekun Corps ‘ll take off soon- Akeredolu

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has said the long awaited Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun’ would soon take off in the state.
The governor disclosed this yesterday while flagging off year 2020 agricultural planting season held at the Government House Grounds, Alagbaka Akure.
Governor Akeredolu, who noted that Amotekun Corps has commenced operation in a way, said some members of the Corps have been moving round on motorcycles in some farmland areas and the state borders to prevent people from coming into the state.
He stated that the corps would also provide solution to incessant farmers/herdsmen clashes and ensure food sufficiency in the state.
“Amotekun will take off very soon. But in a way, it has already commenced as some members of the corps have been moving round on motorcycles in some farmland areas. They are also at our borders to prevent people from coming in,” he said.
He equally said government would conclude all issues on grazing bill on time.
According to the governor, explained that the event, which is usually a ceremony where farmers and all stakeholders in the agricultural sector in the state are gathered, was held in a low key this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the global community.
He stressed that government would continue to do its best to address the incessant destruction of farmlands by herdsmen so that food security would not be threatened even after the COVID-19 pandemic.
