A clergy and political analyst, Revd. Cornelius Ayetan, has emphasised the importance of Nigerians placing their trust in God as they step into the new year.
In a chat with The Hope, Ayetan expressed confidence in the nation’s bright future, urging both leaders and citizens to rise to the occasion of rebuilding Nigeria. Despite the challenges faced by the country, he remained optimistic that the hurdles will be overcome.
Ayetan further asserted that the ownership of the country lies with God, which is why Nigerians should remain hopeful, trusting that the Lord will guide the nation towards its promised future.
“The future is also in our hands, God would not perform magic in our favour; He is to guide us to do the right thing. We should do the right thing, be firm in our hope, and believe that God will never forsake us,” Ayetan said.
He encouraged citizens to dedicate this year to the rebuilding of the nation and correcting past wrongs.
In light of rising tensions, Ayetan also urged political parties to caution their supporters against hate speech and divisive rhetoric. He highlighted the growing concern over the impact of such language on national unity and stressed that politicians must ensure their ambitions do not come at the expense of the nation.
“Opinion and ideology should be strictly based on the development of all aspects of human life in the nation’s system and not for sentiments or issues that can promote tension and disunity,” he concluded.
