Anambra: Police move to end IPOB’s sit-at-home order

By Justus Adetomiwa

The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up its operations against the infamous sit-at-home order as the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Monday, led an advocacy campaign against the order.

Recall that the Indigenous People of Biafra, an Ibo Separatist Group (IPOB) declared that beginning from August 9, 2021, every Monday shall be sit-at-home for people in the eastern part of Nigeria, warning that anybody flouting the order is taking a grave risk.

The CP, according to the Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, is concerned about how the illegal act has negatively affected the social and economic growth of the State.

He emphasized the need to educate the public about the negative impacts of the order and promised to promote a return to normalcy in the State.

This is among the strategies of the new leadership of the Command to address the attitude of the people on ideology based on crime.

This includes attack of unsuspecting members of the public, security personnel, abduction of persons and destruction of government infrastructures and other crimes.

The CP noted that Anambra State is blessed with vibrant, energetic and enterprising people and these potentials can only be fully realized in a peaceful and secure environment.

He also stated that Anambra State thrives on trading, encouraging residents to go about their lawful businesses without fear.

He assured that the police and other security agencies will take over the streets to ensure their safety.

He further assured that the police is also collaborating with local leaders and stakeholders to address the underlying issues driving the “Sit-At-Home” order and find a lasting solution to the menace.
