Anti-grazing law: Amotekun prosecutes 50

Not fewer than 50 defaulters have been prosecuted for several offences in the past three months after the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu signed the anti -grazing bill into law.
The bill which was signed into Law by the Governor on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, have witnessed several prosecutions from various damages.
This was disclosed by the Commander Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun Corps, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, at the headquarters of the Corps in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
According to him, “The Corps have achieved over 50 prosecutions and damages were claimed by those apprehended for defaulting the Anti-Open grazing Law in the state.
“There is need to establish a peaceful co-existence between farmers and the government and the only way they could relate is to comply with the provision of the Anti-grazing law.”
Adeleye stated that those who disregard the law are to pay a stipulated fine to the relevant provision of the anti-grazing law.
“They settle out of Court and the Ondo State Government has insisted that there is no going back on the enforcement of the anti-grazing law.
“As the 4th phase of Operation Clean up is on going, Mr Governor has given a directive on the re-enforcement of the 6pm-6am curfew on the operation of Okada riders in the state.
According to him, the order was part of efforts by the Corps to ensure effective coordination of public order and safety during the festive season.
He added that the idea was to prevent hoodlums and trouble-makers from freely engaging in unpatriotic acts, illicit arms and drugs in the society.
There was also a standing directive that no tinted vehicles should ply Ondo State roads without plates registered number or covered vehicle number.
He said the Corps are ready to ensure peace and security in the state to ensure that the citizens live harmoniously during the festive period.
He, however, enjoined the public to cooperate with the Corps towards ensuring that citizens of the state enjoy a crime-free yuletide season.
“I want to implore residents of the state to go about their lawful and legitimate businesses, as adequate security arrangement had been emplaced to secure lives and properties,” he said.
