APC knocks PDP over finance commissioner’s budget allegations

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed allegations levelled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac, describing them as baseless and misleading.
The ruling party, in a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Steve Otaloro, accused the opposition of lacking the proper understanding of budgetary process and deliberately misinforming the public.
Otaloro clarified that the preparation and presentation of the state budget fall under the purview of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, not the Finance Ministry.
He stressed that Mrs Isaac had no direct involvement in the allocation process, describing claims that she inflated figures in the 2025 budget as outright falsehoods.
“The APC stands firmly behind Mrs Isaac, who has remained a diligent and transparent custodian of Ondo State’s finances,” the statement read.
The party also faulted the PDP’s claims on certain budgetary allocations, including the N11.5bn security vote and the N250m earmarked for honorariums and sitting allowances, stating that they were deliberately distorted to mislead the public.
“These allocations are integral to the state’s budget, designed to enhance security and governance. The details remain publicly available for scrutiny by anyone interested,” the party added.
Describing the opposition’s insinuation that the commissioner was diverting public funds as defamatory, the APC argued that such accusations only served to undermine the state’s development efforts.
It urged the PDP to embrace constructive criticism rather than resort to “sensationalism and political mischief.”
The people of Ondo State deserve better than these baseless distractions. The opposition must focus on facts rather than peddling lies aimed at heating up the polity,” the statement concluded.
The party reaffirmed its confidence in Mrs Isaac, maintaining that she remained committed to upholding accountability and transparency in the state’s financial management.
