Appeal Court judgement: 14 APC LG chairmen, councillors resume in Osun

. Speaker calls for Tinubu’s intervention.
. We’re ready to work with Adeleke — Ex-Gov’s aide
. Police, Civil Defence, DSS beef up security
Chairmen and councillors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the October 15, 2022, local government election in Osun State on Wednesday resumed duty in 14 Local Government secretariats of the state.
This was sequel to the Court of Appeal judgement that reinstated them recently.
The chairmen and councillors, accompanied by party loyalists, resumed at Ila, Ede South, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Boripe, Oriade and Obokun local government secretariats.
The same scenario played out at Ejigbo, Iwo, Ayedire and Boripe local government secretariats as well.
Commenting, ex-Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Jamiu Olawumi, said at about 10 am, the chairmen and councillors resumed at 14 local government secretariats.
“We have 14 as of 10 am. They are Ila, Ede South, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Boripe, Oriade and Obokun.
“Ejigbo, Iwo, Ayedire and Boripe. Security was top-notch. Members of the police tactical team, an armed squad of Civil Defence, and DSS were seen maintaining law and order around the secretariats. We commend Governor Adeleke, but that is not enough.
“They should take away the thugs they brought to the secretariats. They have them in town. If you move around, you will see strange faces that you have not seen before . They should not encourage those militants and cultists to kill Osun people.
“It has dawned on them that the judgment is enforceable. The governor should make an attempt to see the President, Chief of Staff to the President or the IGP. He should do that much for us so that the vision of developing Osun during his tenure will be achieved.
“Our chairmen and councillors are ready to work with him, though they constitute a different tier of government,” Olawumi said
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Egbedun expressed concern over recent political development and appealed to the President, as the father of the nation, to step in and bring the escalating situation under control.
The Speaker strongly condemned the unlawful attempts by members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to seize control of local government councils across the state. He urged the President to act swiftly to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
Addressing journalists at the Hallowed Chamber of the Assembly Complex during a press conference on Wednesday, Egbedun expressed displeasure over the rising political tension and violence, which have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.
He stated that the state had witnessed an unprecedented rise in political tension, threats to law and order, and a blatant disregard for the rule of law.
According to him, the crisis stems from a coordinated and illegal attempt to forcefully seize control of local government councils by individuals who have no legal or constitutional right to those offices.
“The opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress (APC), forcefully broke into local government secretariats across the state.
“This unlawful invasion is not only a direct attack on our democratic institutions but also a clear violation of the rule of law and a threat to public peace and order.
“Even more disturbing is the fact that security agencies, who are meant to uphold the law, were present while these illegal acts were being carried out. This is unjust, unlawful, and unacceptable. Law enforcement agencies must never be seen aiding and abetting criminal activities.
“The Osun State House of Assembly strongly condemns these acts of lawlessness and impunity. We want to make it abundantly clear that this state will not succumb to political banditry and unconstitutional actions.
“Every individual found guilty of orchestrating or participating in this lawless takeover will be brought to book,” he said.
