An apprentice, Sunday Akinbi has been remanded in Okitipupa prison over alleged assault on some students of Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) Okitipupa.

Sunday Akinbi and four others at large were said to have committed the assault on  September 5, 2018 at about 10:00pm at Agbala – Onibele street, Igbodigbo- Okitipupa and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006 .

The police prosecutor, Inspt. Omoyegha Ayodeji told the court that the three victims of the assault: Olalekan Ranti (F) , Alfred Bode(M) and Toyin  Adesua (M) were ambushed by the culprits on their way to the hostel before they were waylaid with block and sticks thereby causing an open wound with blood gushing out of their faces.

He added that one of the victims was seriously wounded and was admitted in the process while others managed to go back to the school because of the mid-semester examination.

In his judgement, the Presiding Magistrate D.O Ogunfuyi described the rate of assault in his jurisdiction in recent time as prevalent which will not be condoned under any guise

“This court observed that this kind of case is prevalent in this jurisdiction, most especially between some youths and students of OSUSTECH.”

“Therefore, due to the prevalence of this case in this environment and considering the fact that some of the victims of the assaults are still visiting the hospital for treatment, this court will defer consideration for bail till the next adjournment date when the victims of the assault would have been fully healed,” he said

The case was however adjourned till October 25, 2018 for further hearing and the defendant was remanded in Okitipupa prison custody until the next adjournment date.
