Aquinas students hold court session to mark 70th anniversary

A court session by students of Aquinas College Akure was among the activities exhibited yesterday to kick-start the last segment of the school’s 70th anniversary.

During the proceeding, cases of bullying, vandalism and street fight were decided and six students were given varying degrees of punishment ranging from suspension, reparation to manual labour by the presiding Judge, Master Jeremiah Adinnu.

Other materials for exhibition were photos of past principals  of the school and other notable member of public, various awards won by the school, art and craft materials, herbal materials among other things.

The Principal of the school, Mr Michael Afolabi said the court session was meant to discipline offenders adding that students are allowed to try erring students like themselves.

He said the session was organised to showcase to the old students what the students are capable of doing.

Chairman of the 70th anniversary planning committee, Prof. Emilolorun Ayelari noted that the anniversary was slated for 1st to 7th of March last year but had to be delayed as a result of the outbreak of COVID-19.

According to him, the inter-house sport of the school will hold today, while anniversary lecture/ launching/award ceremony were stated for Thursday.

He said 54 people were to be honored with various awards including old students and notable people who are not members of ACAOSA.

He added that the anniversary lecture titled “Making a Case for Centre of Excellence” will be delivered by a National Merit Award Winner and an old student of the school, Prof. Abiodun Oluwole on Thursday.

Special Guest of honour at the anniversary is Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu while Most Rev. Dr. Jude Arogundade is the Guest of Honour for the event.

Ayelari who is also the Chairman of ACAOSA INEC, stated that the convention of the association will come up on Friday where new executive members will be elected.
