Armed forces remembrance day: Aiyedatiwa solicits support for fallen heroes wives, dependants

…as Yayi-Akorede appreciates Nigerian Army

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, led a dignified assembly at the State Juma’at Service, marking the commencement of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration.

Alongside members of the state executive council, Governor Aiyedatiwa represented by the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Alhaji Aminu Takuro at the event have solicited for generous support both in cash and kind to the widows and dependants of the fallen heroes.

The Juma’at service, held at the Akure central mosque, brought together clergymen, dignitaries, and citizens in a show of unity and gratitude towards the brave men and women who have sacrificed for the nation.

The governor in his remark paid tribute to the late former Governor Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN, CON, expressing condolences and emphasizing Akeredolu’s fearless leadership in prioritizing the security of the South-West Region. The governor urged continued prayers for Akeredolu’s family.

Addressing attendees, Aiyedatiwa highlighted the significance of the Juma’at service, an annual event dedicated to praying for families affected by wars and peacekeeping operations.

He accentuated the sacrifice of officers in current counter-terrorism operations, emphasizing the tragic impact on their families, including pregnant wives and fatherless children.

The governor called for prayers not only in memory of fallen heroes but also for peace in Ondo State, Nigeria, and the world at large. Stressing the ongoing need for support, Aiyedatiwa urged generous contributions, both in cash and kind, for the widows and dependents of the fallen heroes.

Reiterating his administration’s commitment to the socio-economic well-being of the people, Governor Aiyedatiwa sought continued cooperation and support from the faithful. He acknowledged the importance of divine guidance in achieving their goals and prayed for Allah’s protection and blessings in the New Year.

Earlier, Alhaji AbduHakeem Yayi-Akorede, the Chief Imam of Akure, expressed appreciation for the unwavering dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces in safeguarding the nation’s integrity.

During the special Juma’at service, the cleric urged governments at all levels to enhance the welfare of military personnel and called upon the Muslim community to consistently include them in their prayers.

The cleric reminded the congregation that God alone gives power hence everyone should give room for a peaceful coexistence especially in Ondo state,describing his emergence as a writing script from God.

He encouraged Muslims to refrain from engaging in blackmail but rather participate in constructive criticism for the society’s overall development.

Alhaji AbduHakeem Yayi-Akorede also commended former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for impartially addressing religious organizations, resulting in the inauguration of the Government House Mosque. Special prayers were offered for the military personnel, Nigeria, and the well-being of Ondo State as a whole.

Dr. Mrs. Adebunmi Osadaun, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, concluded the program with a warm vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants for their active involvement in commemorating the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. She specially thanked Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to honoring the sacrifices of our armed forces.

She also reminded everyone about the upcoming program at the government house Chapel of Grace scheduled for Sunday, emphasizing the importance of continued participation and support in honoring our military personnel.

In a significant announcement, Dr. Osadaun revealed that the government has prepared a 30 million naira loan without interest for widows of our fallen heroes to support their business endeavors.

She concluded by extending heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration and encouraged everyone to join in the subsequent event coming up on Sunday and Monday.

Dignitaries who graced the Jum’ah service include, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development,Dr Mrs Adebunmi Osadaun, SA on gender Olamide falana, deputy chief of staff Prince omojuwa Olusegun and some other members of the state executive council, members of the Nigerian legion, armed forces, among others.
