Army captain, soldier killed as military repels Boko Haram in Borno

Boko Haram terrorists have killed a Nigerian Army Captain and a soldier in a midnight attack on Izge community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Emir of Gwoza, Mohammed Shehu Timta, disclosed this in an interview with Channels Television on Wednesday.

He explained that the attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday when the terrorists infiltrated the farming community, firing sporadically before personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, with the assistance of local hunters, vigilantes, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, successfully repelled them.

According to the emir, the security forces killed three of the terrorists and recovered several motorcycles, bicycles, an operational vehicle, and a sophisticated rifle from the assailants.

The traditional ruler commended the military, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, vigilantes, and the resilient community of Izge for their collaborative efforts in repelling the attack. He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the fallen military personnel and their families, expressing condolences for the irreparable loss.

He called on the Federal Government to take urgent action to address the renewed attacks, especially as the farming season approaches.

“My people in Izge community came under Boko Haram attack today at about 1 a.m. Unfortunately, a Captain and a soldier paid the supreme price.

“However, due to a brave and swift reaction from the military, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, vigilantes, and the resilient community, the attack was repelled, resulting in the killing of three terrorists.

“As the community continues to trail the terrorists, over 10 bicycles, motorcycles, a single military vehicle, and a sophisticated rifle with ammunition have been recovered from the assailants.

“I would like to commend our military forces, other security agencies, the Civilian Joint Task Force, local hunters, vigilantes, and our resilient people for their bravery. Even now, many are still in the bush tracking the whereabouts of the fleeing terrorists.”

The monarch also praised the state governor, Professor Babagana, for his relentless efforts in providing essential resources to the security agencies and CJTF members in the battle against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, which has led to relative peace and the resettlement of many displaced persons to their ancestral homes.

“I also call on the Federal Government to equip our security forces with technological warfare and advanced weaponry to defeat the remnants of Boko Haram members who are terrorising our communities almost on a daily basis.”
