Army foil kidnap attempt by herdsmen in Ondo

Men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army in Ondo State have foiled a kidnap attempt by unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen, along Owo-Ifon expressway in Ose Local Government area of the state.
It was, however learnt that two of the soldiers were injured in the gun duel with the herdsmen and a patrol team of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army along Owo -Ifon expressway, in Ose local government area of Ondo state.
The soldiers, who were said to be on patrol along the expressway reportedly ran into the kidnappers who had barricaded the road and already held some travelers hostage, before they were intercepted.
A police source said, “On sighting the soldiers, the hoodlums opened fire on them and bullets hit a soldier in the arm and the other on the chest.
“The gun duel lasted an hour as the kidnappers left the victims and ran into the forest, while the injured soldiers were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident and said men of the command were already in the forest in search of the bandits.
The APRO of the Nigeria Army, Capt. Omojokun, who described the news that four herdsmen were killed as fake said there was a heavy exchange of gun shots for hours.
An indigene of Ifon, Mr Adedayo Awani, told The Hope Metro that, “the criminals have been having a field day, killing and maiming peace loving people, kidnaping, extorting, brutalising and chasing them out of the their ancestral farmlands.
“We commend the security forces for preventing another activity of Kidnap to occur at that moment and we commiserate with those who sustained gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile, some daredevil armed robbers who attempted to rob at Ogbese/Uso took to their heels as they were intercepted by Amotekun Corps.
Speaking with the Commander, Mr Olatunji Adeleye confirmed that they were at Ogbese and despatched a team to foil robbery.
