Army foils bandit`s attack, nabs suspect, recovers arms

The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, has applauded his troops for their swift response, discipline, and unwavering commitment during a recent operation in Taraba State, which led to the neutralisation of a bandit and the recovery of a Dane gun, a locally fabricated pistol, and four motorcycles.

Describing the success of Operation Lafiatan Jamaa, Brigadier General Uwa affirmed the Army’s determination to flush out criminal elements wherever they may be hiding.

“The safety and security of citizens in Taraba State remain our top priority,” he said, urging communities to support the military with credible intelligence.

“Together, we will overcome every threat to peace in our society.”

“The 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, remains committed to the complete eradication of all forms of criminality and banditry within Taraba State.

“We call on the good people of the state to support the ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.” He stated

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army.

It was further stated that as part of the ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across Taraba State, troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have intensified efforts in Karim Lamido Local Government area , following recent crises that have resulted in the loss of lives and property.

During a fighting patrol in Kwanchi village, troops made contact with armed bandits and immediately engaged them in a hot pursuit. In the course of the operation, one of the troops’ motorcycles developed a fault and was temporarily secured in the village to allow the operation to continue.

Upon return, it was discovered that the motorcycle was missing, prompting an immediate raid operation by the troops to recover the item.

During the search, troops encountered three policemen accompanied by a civilian identified as Alhaji Munga, who was questioned at the scene.

Further interaction led to a call being placed to Alhaji Lamido, who was alleged to be in possession of the missing motorcycle.

During questioning, Alhaji Lamido stated that he was in Mutum Biyu, while the motorcycle had been taken to Kudeh village, near a riverbank. Troops swiftly mobilised to the area.

As they approached the location, they came under sudden gunfire from the armed bandits.

The troops immediately returned fire and engaged the criminals in a fierce encounter. The bandits fled in disarray, abandoning their position.

Alhaji Munga is currently in military custody and continues to assist with investigations and intelligence gathering.
