Contrary to rumour milling around that contractors have abandoned the A-Division/Ijoka road, Akure the asphalt overlay of the road commenced yesterday.
Rumour mongers had alleged that contractors have removed their equipment from the site of the project with the excuse that the state government failed to meet up with payment.
Debunking this rumour, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Taiwo Otun noted that contractors have completed the concrete work on the road and moved to the CBN/Court of Appeal road in order to allow the priming to compact before laying asphalt.
He affirmed that the contractors received payment just last month.
When The Hope visited the site, engineers were seen supervising the of asphalt laying with about seven trucks of asphalt.
Meanwhile, the right lane of the road is undergoing density and compaction tests as engineers were seen on the road rolling and wetting before priming and asphalt laying, while the left lane will soon be opened for use within a week after asphalt laying.
On the second phase of the road which begins from NEPA roundabout to Ijoka, the affected property owners have started receiving financial compensations as announced on radio stations across the state last week.
According to the ministry, demolition will start as soon as compensation payment is completed, and the property owners would be given a notice to quit before the exercise commenced.
On Idanre/Ijoka road, asphalt laying has also commenced yesterday.
