Assassination attempt on Ondo lawmaker: Police commence investigation

The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday, said it has commenced investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the alleged attempted assassination on the federal lawmaker representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo state, Tajudeen Adefisoye aka Small Alhaji.
The Hope Metro gathered on Tuesday, that there was tension at Idanre at the camp of the lawmaker who alleged attempted assassination on his life in his home town, Idanre by suspected assailants.
Reacting, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Fumilayo Omisanyo said, “We quickly moved in to ensure peace in the community as investigations have started with a view to apprehending perpetrators of such dastard act.
“This is electioneering period. You would want to bring in someone that will represent you. There is no justification taking anybody’s life. No election is worth it. No position is worth taking anybody’s life.
We will get to the root of the matter and ensure we get those involved arrested.
The PPRO advised that parents should caution their children against being used as thugs as the general elections draw nearer.
“We have advised any political party to ensure that men of the Nigeria Police Force are notified anytime they have political programmes like campaigns and rallies.
” There is no eye-service for anybody. There is no reason for special treatment for any one. They are all equal under the law. The Police will not fold its hands and allow people take laws into their hands and truncate the reigning peace in the state,”she said.
According to reports, the attack was carried out by some suspected assailants allegedly hired by his PDP opponent, Festus Akingbaso and one PDP loyalist, popularly known as ‘Guilder.’
The incident, has, however been reported at Idanre police division, while personal vehicles of Adefisoye which was riddled with bullets have also been brought to the police station.
Meanwhile, Small Alhaji who was lucky to have survived the attack unscathed, has, however appealed to his followers not to embark on any reprisal attack.
He also charged the security agencies to investigate the incident and make necessary prosecutions.
Reacting to the allegation, Festus Akingbaso denied involvement in the attack on Mr Tajudeen Adefisoye.
