Assault lands man in court

A 30-year-old man, Friday Ogbojumo, has been arraigned before an Ore Chief Magistrate Court, over an alleged assault.

Men of the Ondo State Police Command, arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate O. J. Adelegan, on a two-count charge bordering on assault.

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on April 18, 2024, at about 11pm at Big Joe Street, Ore, Ondo  State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Jimoh Amuda, told the court that the accused assaulted one Ayo Akinolu, with fist blows and injured her nose.

He also alleged that the defendant assaulted her with stick which caused her a bodily harm on her right hand.

The offence contravenes Sections 351, 355 of the Criminal, Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Amuda, therefore, sought for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel, Mr. J.S. Ebi did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor. But he prayed the court to grant his client bail on most liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate. Adelegan, in his ruling, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 7, 2024, for mention.
