A 19-year-old boy, Emmanuel Tibetan, has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court, over an alleged assault
Men of the Ondo State Police Cpmmand arraigned the defendant before Chief Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi, on a count charge bordering on assault.
According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on September 25, 2023 at about 6:00pm at Show-boy Area, in Ore, Ondo State.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifo told the court that the accused unlawfully assaulted one Faith Samuel, by beating her with fist blow on her face and lips which caused her bodily harm.
According to Usifo, the victim is currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
The offence contravenes Section 355 of the Criminal, Code Cap. 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence leveled against them.
Usifo, therefore sought for an adjournment to enable the victim in hospital recuperate and to prepare his witnesses for trial.
The defence counsel, Mr V. A Akinfe did not oppose application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on most liberal terms
Chief Magistrate D. O. Ogunfuyi, granted the prosecutor’s request and ordered the remand of the defendant at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre till next adjourned date on October 31, 2023 for mention.
