Assist govt on security matters, communities charged

A member of Ondo State Advisory Committee on Community Policing who also doubles as the vice chairman of Ikare Akoko area command PCRC, Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani, has called on communities and philanthropists to assist government on security matters.
Alhaji Kilani made this call at an interactive meeting with the new Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami when he paid his maiden visit to police formations in the Ikare Akoko Area Command.
He commended the new Ondo Police boss for his records of achievements in the places he had served and tasked him to surpass these by ridding the sunshine state of criminals and criminality.
Alhaji Kilani also praised the Commissioner of Police for inaugurating state committee on community policing within few days he assumed duty.
Similarly Mr Femi Oloketuyi, the PCRC chairman in Irun Akoko, appealed for deployment of more policemen to Akoko area because of its proximity to other states like Edo, Kogi and Ekiti.
Oloketuyi said this became necessary because of the vast mature of the area and the increasing wave of crimes in recent times.
The regent of Akunu Akoko, Princess Tolani Orogun who mentioned Ikakumo, Akunu, Auga and Ise, all in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area of the State as hot spots for kidnapping, robbery and herdsmen/farmers clashes also made a passionate appeal to the new police boss to step up fighting of crimes in Akoko Land.
Speaking at the meeting, CP Bolaji Salami assured the people that the police will not leave any stone unturned to rid Akoko, Ondo State and Nigeria at large of undesirable elements in our midst.
Salami laid more emphasis on the importance of community collaboration with police to make things work as government alone cannot do it.
He added that federal government embarked on community policing to complement the efforts of regular police to reduce crimes since indigenes are familiar with terrains of their various communities and they also live with these criminal elements on daily basis.
The Commander of Ikare Akoko Area Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police Razak Rauf, described the command as very young and lacking many things.
Razak commended the command PCRC for a robust support and some individuals who made the take off of the area command carved from Owo Area Command a reality.
