As the second edition of the Adu Unity Football Competition for Aiyedatiwa kicks off in Akure, the Chairman of the competition’s organising committee, Rahman Abdulsalam, has urged grassroots football coaches to prepare their players to participate in the tournament.
In a chat with Sporting Hope, Abdulsalam stated that the purpose of the competition is to further uncover the hidden talent present in the state, noting that certified FIFA-licensed agents will be on hand to scout for outstanding players.
He revealed that aside from the substantial prizes for the winners, there will also be individual awards for exceptional players, such as the highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, and best-behaved team.
The competition, he said, will commence this month and conclude by mid-December to allow players and their coaches to prepare for Christmas and the New Year.
He assured all participating teams of fair and unbiased officiating, adding that registration is still ongoing.
According to him, “The sponsor, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu, mentioned during the first edition that the competition would become an annual event.
“There will be more improvements in this second edition compared to the maiden edition,” he said.
