Bala quits Katsina United over threat to life

Katsina United coach , Bala Abubakar has said that he is quitting his position as the head coach of the team with immediate effect.

Abubakar stated this in his post match news conference after his side lost 1-0 to Sunshine Stars in the match day 25 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) played at the Ondo State sports complex in Akure the state capital.

The former Niger tornadoes manager, while lamenting the hostile environment occasioned by fans and attack as one of the reasons for his resignation.

He accused the fans and management of expecting too much while not doing enough to maintain the team.

Bala added that since his assumption as the head coach of the team in December 2023 he had guided the team to an appreciable height of not loosing seven of its matches but noted that after the draw at home the threat was unbearable for him.

When asked what his next decision would be, Bala said he would be taking time off football for now to return when a better offer showed up.

Bala while speaking on the game praised both teams, describing the officiating as perfect and his team was just unlucky.

“I humbly wish to resign my position as the Head Coach of Katsina United. This is a result of the lack of a conducive atmosphere and the non-fulfilment of my contract agreements.

“I’m sincerely grateful for the opportunity and support given to me during my brief stay with the club and wish the team the best of the season,” he said.

Sunshine Stars Manager, Kennedy Boboye, while reacting to the home victory, said his team made up their mind to move up the ladder of the NPFL after 5-1 defeat to Kano pillars in Kano.

Boboye,who said some of the players was observing Ramadan, said certain considerations and tactics were deployed to fortify the team and implement game plans for victory.
