Members of Aquinas College Akure Old Students’ Association ACAOSA gathered together at the weekend to celebrate one of their own, Prof Olufemi Adeoluwa who was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere, Ekiti state.
Speaking at the occasion, National President of the association, Justice Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi said the event was organised to give honour to whom honour was due.
According to him, the new VC is an exceptional scholar who has displayed excellence.
“In ACAOSA, we do recognize talents. We give honour to whom honour is due. And the day is proximal to the 70th anniversary of our school. So this makes it so memorable,” he said.
Chairman, organising committee of the programme, Dokun Abiodun noted that the event was organised to encourage others, adding that it is one of the aims of the association that their members must fight to take the first position in whatever they do.
“We are celebrating because an icon in academics is being elevated as a pioneer VC of a new university. Also it is close to the 70th anniversary of our school,” he stressed.
Wife of the celebrant, Mrs Bolanle Adeoluwa who could not hide her joy called on women not to be lazy but be supportive to their husbands and rely on God for lifting.
Responding, Prof Olufemi Adeoluwa appreciated the association for deeming it fit to honour him.
“I feel so excited to be honoured today. This is an association I cherish so much, an association where people as old as my father are at the helm of affairs. I never expected that the national body could recognize me. I see myself so little because so many of them have become something higher before me.
Adeoluwa promised to uphold the focus of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology to produce graduates that will not start looking for job.
“Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology is a unique institution that is focused on entrepreneural and vocational studies. The structure is focused on entrepreneural orientation and that is what we are trying to do.
“All the people we are trying to recruit in other to train students are themselves going to be given that orientation so that there is nothing you study in the university that cannot be turned into entrepreneural opportunities”, he explained.
