Few hours after the departure of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Adamu Muhammed from Ondo State, there were apprehensions in Ifon town yesterday over the killing of the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Israel Adeusi.
The news of the passage shook the town as people gathered in groups discussing the development.
It was gathered by The Hope that the Oba was returning from a monthly meeting of traditional rulers (pelupelu) in Akure when some unknown gunmen attacked his vehicle shot at him.
Sources close to The Hope revealed that two other persons were also kidnapped by the hoodlums.
Report had it that the incident occurred along Akure-Benin highway at Elegbeka, a town of few kilometres to Ifon, the headquarters of Ose Local Government area of the state.
Sources close to The Hope hinted that the incident occurred around 5:45pm yesterday. It was learnt that the Oba after the attack, was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Owo where he reportedly passed on.
At the FMC, it was gathered that the medical team battled to save his life but their frantic effort was said to be unsuccessful.
After the news filtered in, sympathisers have started thronging Ifon town to confirm the development which took many by surprise.
Sources close to The Hope disclosed that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu rushed to the FMC at about 7.40pm to confirm the story and to also commiserate with the family of the monarch.
Attack on Oba Adeusi came few day after three children of a family were kidnapped and released by the hoodlums at Elegbeka having paid N5 million ransom.
Oba Adeusi was born in 1955. He was installed as the Oba in 1997.
The state Police Public Relation officer, Tee-Loe Ikoro confirmed the story. He said that Oba Adeusi was shot and killed while the other people were also kidnapped.
According to him, the police has deployed investigating team to apprehend the killers.
