Bank chief charges farmers on exportable commodities

To access the sum of N3 billion earmarked for Export Development Fund, Ondo state government has been advised to build its capacity on production of more exportable commodities for a better economy.

The exportable commodities include Palm oil, Palm Kernel cake, Soya beans, Cashew nut, Ginger and Galic among others.

Mrs Stella Okotete, Executive Director of the NEXIM Bank disclosed this in an interview with The Hope in Akure, Ondo state.

She said the commodities mentioned are in the economic growth and recovery plan of the nation and ought to be upscaled for exportation to meet the high demand for them at the international market.

“There is need for the youth and women to go into agriculture”,  she observed.

In view of this, Okotete said her bank established the women and youths export development fund with the sum of N3billion for the programme.

She said SMEDAN is doing a lot of trainings, while NNPC is training in capacity building in terms of doing business for exportation among many others.

In a related development, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor of Ondo State on Agriculture who doubles as the Chairman of Agric Business Empowerment Centre, Mr.. Akin Olotu said the state is encouraging youths to go into  cashew production.

He said government has raised the best variety of cashew seedlings which it gave to the farmers freely.
