Banker arraigned for stealing

A 26-year-old staff of Micro Finance bank, David Ebenezer Fawehinmi, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for stealing N1,400,374.
The police arraigned Fawehinmi for conspiring with others at large to commit felony to wit stealing.
He was alleged to have converted the money to his use, property a Cooperative and Micro Finance .
The defendant was said to have committed the offence August 30,2019 at about 12pm at Rainbow street, Ondo, contrary to section 383 and punishable under sections 516 and 390(7) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The charge sheet read in part,” That you, David Ebenezer Fawehinmi and others at large on August 30,2019 at about 12pm at Rainbow street, Ondo in the Ondo magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
“That you, David Ebenezer Fawehinmi on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did steal the sum of N1,400,374 by converting it was to your own use property of Excellent pass Multipurpose Cooperative and Micro Finance Nigerian limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(7) of the Criminal code cap 37 volume 1 laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The police prosecutor, Mr. Akao Moremi, told the court of his readiness to call six witnesses to testify in the case. He, therefore, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
The defendant’s counsel, Mr. E D Apala, also applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.
Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N750,000 with two sureties that own landed properties.
He said both sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court, while they must attach original documents of the landed property with two passports each.
The magistrate added that the court’s orderly must confirm that the sureties are residents within the jurisdiction and adjourned the case till September 17, 2020 for trial.
