The battle among four people in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to replace the late lawmaker who represented Akure South and Akure North Federal Constituency, Mr. Adedayo Omolafe has been described as an insult on the party and insensitivity to the plight of the family of the deceased.
Though, the party in Ondo State declared that it was not aware of those jostling to fill the position said the plan on how give departed philanthropist a befitting burial was more important to it.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Kennedy Peretei, stated this while reacting to the moves by some PDP members already jostling to be picked for the vacant seat at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
He said: “you must appreciate that fact, Adedayo Omolafe (Expensive) is still in the morgue. Therefore, discussing a bye election race that has not been declared, insults our sensibility and it is an insensitivity to the plight of the family of the deceased.
“As a party, we are not aware of those jostling to fill the position. After the burial, once the INEC commences the processes for a bye election, we shall engage the next gear. But as it stands, what occupies our mind is how to give the departed a befitting burial.”
Omolafe, who died on August 16, 2021was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2019 general elections.
It was learnt that no fewer than four persons are battling for the PDP ticket to contest the bye election that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct later in the year to fill the vacant seat.
