The President of National Council for Women Society,NCWS, in Ondo State, Mrs. Jumoke Aborode has urged women in politics and those nursing political ambition to practise politics with decency and sincerity.
She implored women in partisan politics to be of good character with a clean mind of going into politics rather to engage in political ritual or indecency that would make them go astray.
The president stated this in an interview with The Hope on the effort of Senate Committee on Review of 1999 Constitution Assembly to pave the way for more women to occupy seats in the National Assembly.
“Women in politics or those having political ambition should bring their husbands very close to themselves for better understanding and trust” she noted
She called on the religious bodies to sensitise women politicians on the need to desist from evil acts capable destroying their ambitions.
Her words: “Being a politician does not make a woman prostitute.
“For women to attend political meeting must have the support of their husbands.
“The belief that women politicians are exposed to adultery or fornication, l don’t believe in that. A woman that is wayward if she wants to practise prostitution she will do it at her husband house.
She explained that when passed into law, a bill for an Act to alter the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to create additional special seats for women in the Federal and the State Legislature Houses and for related matters will pave the way for women to contribute immensely for the development of the country.
She maintained that the move by the National Assembly working behind the scene to make the bill see the light of the day was commendable.
Explaining that women inclusion in politics has been a long agitation, the she expressed displeasure over the use and dump of women for election by male counterpart.
The president, therefore, called on the National Assembly to give the bill accelerate passage to allow women occupying sensitive positions at the local, state and federal levels of government.
