Be job creators, Corps Members tasked

The Coordinator of Ondo State NYSC, Mrs. Grace Akpabio has charged youths to be job creators and not job seekers by making use of the skill acquisition programmes of the scheme.
Mrs Akpabio gave this charge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko while flagging off the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development, SAED, of the scheme meant for the 2019 Batch ‘A’ corps members posted to Ondo State.
The NYSC coordinator said corps members should be serious by using the opportunity provided by the programme to start their own businesses.
She said that NYSC has put in place structures that would encourage the corps members to embrace various skills and vocation of their choice to make life better for them during and after the orientation.
The Coordinator who was represented at the ceremony by the Assistant Director/Head, Human Resource Management, Mr. Olayiwola Lasaki thanked the trainers and facilitators for supporting the Scheme.
The SAED Monitoring Officer from NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs. Edith Ezenogo charged the corps members to see the training as an opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills.
The Head of SAED on Camp, Mrs. Olubunmi Ayodele while welcoming the guests advised the corps members to pick among the 12 subsets skills the NYSC has provided trainers from.
Mrs. Ayodele who is holding forth for Mrs. Ehimwenma who is the Camp Director told the gathering that benefits to be derived by participants is in two folds namely camp and post camp trainings.
One of the guest speakers who represented DSI Gate, a youth empowerment and development institution, Mr. Charles Ade highlighted the importance of digitisation and ICT in the emerging society.
Mr. Ade while encouraging the corps members to acquire at least one entrepreneurial skill, highlighted several benefits the members of the service corps stand to enjoy.
The corps members were full of praises about the scheme as another Motivational Speaker, Comrade Henry Okeke admonished them to be proactive towards SAED programme.
Mr. Okeke an ex-corps member said ‘NYSC Service year is not a year to waste, but a year to invest’.
The motivational speaker encouraged the corps members to believe and invest in themselves.
At the colourful ceremony, Facilitators and Trainers of various skills introduced their programmes which will last for the next ten days.
The hands on training commenced on 2nd April, 2019.
