Be proactive, CP charges officers

Ahead of the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, the Ondo state police commissioner,  Mr Undie Adie, has charged officers and men  of the command to double their efforts in ensuring that they surpass the achievements they recorded in the  last Presidential and National Assembly polls in the state.

To this end, all police officers in the Department of Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB), have been mandated to go out and gather intelligence report necessary for sustainable peace before, during and after the elections.

The police boss gave the directive, while addressing the Area Commanders,  Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of various departments of the command and senior officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs), at the monthly conference held at police officers Mess in Akure.

Adie, who enjoined them to be professional in their conduct during elections pointed out that there is urgent need to strengthen the CIB department of the command,

He noted that officers in that department need to double their efforts in effective surveillance and gather necessary Intelligence that would help solve crime related issues happening in the state.

His words,”Your department is a very important one in the Nigeria Police Force. But I have not seen much impact. You must go out to get report of incidents and furnish me with adequate facts and figures.

“I will not hesitate to deal with any of you who fails to do his job well. You all did very well in the last elections and we are expected to do much better in the forthcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections, though Ondo is only having state Assembly election which you know is also very important.

“Don’t allow yourself to be used by any politician. Don’t collect money from anybody, because if you are caught by the Social media, you will have yourself to be blamed.

“As policemen, ours is to provide security end ensure there is peace throughout the exercise,” he stated.

The Commissioner who tasked the DPOs to always supervise their men on the beats to ensure they are doing what is expected of them, directed all policemen that would be on duty during the elections to make sure they put on their uniforms for easy identification.

CP Adie also directed Area Commanders and DPOs in Akure metropolis to ensure their men on traffic section control traffic situations being witnessed in state capital of recent times, just as he assured that the security measures put in place during the last elections would be sustained and improved upon.

While using the medium to appraise their performances in the last elections, he said despite that the elections were free, fair and credible, there  is need for the police to be more proactive in detecting crime and criminality before they occur.
