Be ready to vacate government house in 2026, APC tells Adeleke

From Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Governor Ademola Adeleke to prepare for a swift exit from Government House in 2026, saying there will be no vacancy for him.

The party’s strong warning follows the widespread endorsements the governor received for re-election during the New Year interdenominational prayer service at the state Government Secretariat in Abere, Osun State, on Thursday, the first working day of the new year.

In a statement by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party dismissed the endorsements as mere political distractions.

“There is no vacancy for Governor Adeleke come 2026,” the statement said. “Those endorsing him are simply wasting their time.”

The APC went on to criticise Governor Adeleke for getting carried away by the endorsements, which it claimed would not provide any electoral advantage. The party pointed out that political history had shown that such endorsements had little impact on electoral outcomes.

“Has Governor Adeleke forgotten that a certain President of Nigeria failed woefully to secure re-election, despite royal endorsements from nearly all traditional rulers in the State of the Virtuous years ago?” the statement asked.

The APC also questioned the governor’s performance, highlighting several issues during his administration. “Why should Governor Adeleke be given another term when his government has failed to employ a single teacher in public schools across the state in over two years?” the statement queried.

The party also demanded answers from Adeleke for sacking 1,500 teachers and numerous healthcare workers employed by his predecessor, accusing him of undermining the state’s education and healthcare systems.

“Governor Adeleke should be bold enough to explain why all primary, secondary, and tertiary government health institutions in the state have become mere consulting clinics with no drugs and no qualified personnel,” the APC said.

The party further lambasted Adeleke for abandoning his promise to declare a state of emergency in the education sector, opting instead to prioritise the construction of flyovers in select towns, which they described as unnecessary and potentially driven by personal gain.

“There is no excuse for an administration that has failed to hold a successful state executive meeting in over two years,” the APC added, accusing Adeleke of poor planning and mismanagement of state resources.

The APC concluded that no amount of endorsements would save an administration they described as purposeless and rudderless, stressing that Adeleke should focus on governance rather than endorsements.
