Be role models, AAUA SUG exco charged

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Prof. Olugbenga Ige has enjoined the newly-elected executives o f the  Student Union Government in the Institution to be diligent, steadfast  and to serve as good examples to the students.

He gave the admonition at the swearing-in ceremony of new officers for the Students Union Government (SUG) .

Ige, who congratulated the new leaders on their victory at the polls, urged them to demonstrate maturity in leadership, adding that as leaders, they were expected to serve as role models  .

He  admonished them to motivate other students, especially the new ones, to pay their school fees before the matriculation ceremony.

The Acting Registrar, Mr. Opeoluwa Akinfemiwa, administered the Oath of Office on the new executives, led by Oluwasegun Omogunwa as President, Valentina Funmilola Akinlalu as Vice President, and Oluwagbogo Taiwo as Secretary, among others.

Also inaugurated at the ceremony were leaders of the Student Union Representatives (SRC) and the Halls of Residence Executives.

In his comment  at the inauguration, the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Olusegun Owolewa, appreciated the University authorities and the ICT Application Centre for ensuring a seamless electronic election that accommodated thousands of student voters.

He observed that the e-voting exercise was so transparent that there has been no petition against the election results.

Dr. Owolewa charged the new officers to carry along every shade of opinion even as he announced that Management would put in place a leadership training retreat for them to hone their skills.

In his Valedictory Speech, the immediate past President of the Student Union, Comr. Adesomoju Samuel, congratulated the new officers and pledged to support and give his advice when called upon to do so.

In his speech, the new President, Comr. Omogunwa, promised to employ dialogue and diplomacy in championing the cause of students with the Management.

 He also pledged to mobilize students towards sustaining the leadership position of Adekunle Ajasin University as a leading citadel of learning and research in Nigeria and beyond.

The occasion was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Francis Gbore; Deans, Directors, and other senior officers of the University, as well as representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and other student bodies from sister institutions.
