Students across Ondo State have been urged to be studious as they resumed for another term to justify the investment of stakeholders in the education sector.

Speaking with The Hope during an interview, Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools in the state, Comrade Tajudeen Balogun said the present administration is doing a lot for the development of education.

Balogun who called on secondary schools three students in particular to be diligent in their studies, said teachers in the state are more committed than before to ensure the students excel in their academics.

“Since the inception of this administration in the state, teachers have been working hard to support what the government is doing for the development of education and this is evident in the performances of the students in examinations.

“Before now, vice principals do teach. Even some principals do skeletal teachings because there are no enough teachers. And now that the government is asking us to do that, we will continue.

“But if government paid for WASSCE among other things, the teachers are ready and the students are not serious with their academics, if they fail whose fault is that,” he queried.

He called on parents to provide needed learning materials particularly textbooks for their wards adding that those who do not have the wherewithal to buy all the books should provide for important subjects like English and Mathematics.

While urging government to fulfill its promise of recruiting teachers in public secondary schools in the state, Balogun called for regular parents of salaries for teachers to boost their morale.
