A fast rising comedian, Ojewumi Adeoye popularly known as ‘Adexsexylee worldwide’ is Lagos based entertainer who said his character is inborn.
Adexsexylee in an interview with Friday Extravaganza, hinted that comedy is not his chosen career, but that his character turned him to one. Excerpts:
How did you find yourself in this profession and when did you start?
I discovered that when I was in the secondary school, some people said I was funny and this was when I got inspired to take the role of Master of Ceremony (MC). Fast-forward to 2017, on popular demand, I became a skit maker and presently I have a comedy group where people of like minds joined me to make name for themselves in the industry.
Aside from these, I am also a hip hop singer and a song writer, I have so many tracks and music videos. My passion and contribution to the comedy and music industry earned me the comedy name ‘Abanisiwo’ and my music name ‘Adexsexylee worldwide’ from my fans across the globe.
Can someone learn the profession or it must be a calling?
For some, it is a calling why some others learn it, but as for me, it is in-born and this is why I am never scared whenever I am called upon to act.
If it must be learnt, how does one go about it?
It is being learnt in Schools and Colleges. Some Universities have School of Arts. There are also Schools of Music where people that have passion for music can learn. For instance, I went to College of Education, Ikere Ekiti in Ekiti State to study Music and Theatre Arts so we were taught.
Even though you have the calling, the place of learning is still very essential so as to become a professional. Presently, I am learning how to act Yoruba films under Kemity School of Performing Arts because I am now part of Nollywood.
Can you tell us the challenges of this profession?
There is a lot to say, but what I will say is that if you have money and you have the right channels in the industry you cannot face any challenge(s). But if you do not have money you will face 1,000 challenges before you can be globally recognized.
The only challenge I know is that becoming somebody in life through this profession is not easy, You can suffer depression from online comments, seeing different type of contents will challenge you to be relevant.
How do you relax or cool off during your leisure time?
I go to the beach or cinema sometimes and when I do not feel like doing that, I think of comedy and what next I need in life to get to where I am going to be more successful because I still need help.
Can you tell us about your love life and how you cope or interact with the pressure from the opposite sex?
My love life is not balanced, I have been through ups and downs in the past but thanks be to God Almighty, I am still doing well. At the moment, I am free and do not want to get distracted with any form of love affair.
Who are your role models?
My role models are basically actors and actresses like Kemity, Odunlade Adekola, Iteledicon, Funke Akindele, Wiskid, Davido, Kiss David, Wande cool and so on.
