Ondo State Government has directed all beer parlours operating  in Government Reserved Area (GRAs) to vacate the areas or face demolition.

It also warned those with illegal structures, attachments, and eave projections to vacate the urban areas in the state as demolition will start in earnest.

The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban development, Alhaji Rasheed Badmus gave the warning in Akure, the  state capital, while briefing journalists on the development.

The Commissioner who affirmed that the ministry had visited the affected areas several times and also served them  quit notice over six months ago, posited that the state government will not tolerate illegal structures and activities in the areas.

“The State Executive council met about seven months ago and the issue of illegal structures in the state capital and other urban areas like Owo, Ikare, Ondo, Ore  and Okitipupa was deliberated upon, and it was agreed that the state government would no longer tolerate such .

“The state government made it mandatory for the ministry that all beer parlours in Alagbaka and other GRAs should be demolished, while all illegal structures  in the state capital and other urban areas should equally be demolished , but we are starting from Akure, the state capital, precisely in GRAs. There are some illegal structures at Alagbaka and some attachments are in Ijapo.

We have visited these places several times and we have served them quit notice, but it seems those engaging in these illegal activities have refused to follow government’s directive.

“And I want to advise again that they should follow rules and regulations  and I want to beg them to allow peace to reign or face the consequences.

“People engaging in these illegal activities should comply with the directive or we demolish the structures. GRAs are not meant for beer parlours, attachments or illegal structures, there are laid down rules and regulations before buying lands in these areas. There are specific things you cannot do,”he maintained.

He added that  all illegal attachments and containers  from Mobil to Oba-Ile will also be removed, noting that they have also been served quit notice more than six months ago.

He informed that many of those who gathered to  drink beer in these areas later resulted to  misbehaviour and terrorising passers-by at night, saying that this is totally unacceptable.
