By Henry Iyorkase, Makurdi

The first rainfall of the year has been recorded in Mkovur Jagela, a community in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

The downpour, which began around 2:30 p.m., lasted until 5 p.m. on Thursday.

A resident of the community, who confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with The Hope, said the rain was accompanied by strong winds but did not cause any damage to homes.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Hon. Ugwu Odoh, said he had received reports of the rainfall in the area.

He noted that the occurrence was an unusually early rainfall for the state.
