Bird flue: ODSG allays farmers’ fear

By Fatima Muraina

Ondo State Director of the Veterinary Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Adebayo Ehinmowo has allayed the fears of poultry farmers in the state over the possible outbreak of Bird Flu, saying the state has taken proactive measures to prevent the outbreak.

Ehinmowo said relevant stakeholders have been notified on how the disease spreads and regular sensitization has been carried out, saying farmers have been urged to monitor the importation of birds from other states.

He charged them to ensure good biosecurity in their farms and control the movement of birds manure in their farms.

Ehinmowo observed the need to avoid old layers from outside the state during the yuletide period because control post across inter state borders are no longer allowed following the federal government’s law.

He however explained that policemen would be  alerted so that those bringing in birds should identify where they are being brought from to ensure safety of all birds coming into the state.
