Bishop charges govt on crime control

The Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese Most Rev’d (Dr) Jude Ayodeji Arogundade yesterday called on government and relevant securities agents in the state to as a matter of urgency tackle the incessant spate of killings, kidnappings and armed robbery happening recently in the State.
The Bishop Spoke with The Hope Metro in an exclusive interview shortly after he celebrated the 2019 Mass of Holy Chrism held at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Akure.
He lamented the insecurity in the state arising from the recent killing of an Anglican bursar and the armed robbery incident in Idoani in Ose Local Government area of the state.
Arogundade, while calling on government and relevant security agents to rise up to the challenge of tackling insecurity in the state and the country as a whole, said all hands must be on deck to fight crime and bring perpetrators to face the wrath of the law.
The clergyman said the rate of kidpping of catholic priests across the country was taking a worrisome dimension, adding that whoever chose to abduct a priest is just wasting his precious time as the church will not associate with any ramsom payment.
His words,” The high rate kidpping catholic priests across the country is a bad omen and worrisome. Priests are sevant of God and have sacrificed their lives to the service of God and humanity and anybody kidpping them is in bad market,”he stated
According to him, government at all levels should be more proactive in handling heinous crime such as kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state and nation stressingthat fighting crime should be a joint responsibities.
While explaining the significance of Holy Thursday event in the catholic church, bishop said it is a day Jesus Christ instituted the Holy Order of priesthood and institution of the holy Eucharist.
Arogundade who used the occasion to congratulate the priests of his diocese, enjoined them to continue to do their best for the overall interest of God and service to humanity just as he called on the people to pray for their priest at all times
