Bizman charged with N10m fraud

A 33-year-old businessman, Obi Godson, has been dragged before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for allegedly converting the sum of N10million, property of one Nwuba Precious Uchenna, to his use.

Godson, who was a business partner to the complainant, is facing two-count charge bothering on fraud and false pretence.

The defendant was said to have committed the offence sometimes between April 2022, in Ondo town, contrary to and punishable under Sections 419 and 390(8) (b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

The prosecutor, Supol Bernard Olagbayi, told the court that three witnesses would testify in the case. Hence, he applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

He said the defendant intended to defraud the complainant by collecting the said amount under false pretence of helping him to get the distributorship of Odogwu bitter drinks which he knew to be false and converted it to his use.

Defence Counsel, Mrs Jessica Achilike, did not oppose the prosecutor’s application. But she applied for the bail of her client in the most liberal terms.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Omofolarin, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two credible sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should attach an electricity bill with a valid Identification Card and adjourned the case till March 25, 2024, for trial.
