Black Friday in Akungba as car crushes three

The ancient town of Akungba-Akoko was on Friday thrown into mourning as a fatal accident allegedly claimed three lives.

Details about the accident are still sketchy but The Hope learnt that three lives were lost and two were siblings.

It was gathered that a private vehicle, claimed to belong to a Yahoo Boy, rammed into the victims.

The Hope Metro learnt that the vehicle was burnt by irate youth of the town.

Meanwhile, the Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) has called for the dualisation of the Akungba-Ikare road to avert further carnage on the road.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officers, Christopher Olusa after the unfortunate incident, OSYN described the incident as not only heartbreaking but also an urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in our communities.

“The loss of lives in this accident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by inadequate road infrastructure, particularly in busy areas like the university vicinity in Akungba. As a bustling hub for students, traders, and community settlers, it is imperative that immediate intervention is carried out to address the pressing issue of road safety in the region,” the statement reads.

OSYN called on the government to swiftly intervene and provide assistance to the affected families and the community at large.

“Furthermore, we urge the government to prioritize the dualization of the road leading to Akungba to prevent future tragedies of this nature. The dualization of the road is not only inevitable but also essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of all road users in the area.”
