Blackout must end, Adelabu declares, warns against energy theft

The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to revamping the nation’s power sector, promising accelerated grid stabilisation and an end to epileptic electricity supply.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Mr Bolaji Tunji, the minister gave the assurance in his Easter message to Nigerians.
Adelabu, who acknowledged the biting economic hardship facing the country, stated that the Ministry of Power remains focused on addressing critical challenges confronting the energy sector.
He noted that recent reforms—particularly the ongoing upgrade of Nigeria’s ageing transmission infrastructure and renewed partnerships with renewable energy developers—were central to achieving lasting solutions to the nation’s power crisis.
“We acknowledge the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians and reaffirm our commitment to stabilising the grid, expanding access, and fostering investor confidence,” the minister said.
The minister, while appealing to citizens to support government policies and reforms in the power sector, called for a united front against illegal activities sabotaging electricity distribution.
He said, “Let us also embrace energy-efficient practices to reduce strain on the grid. I urge all Nigerians to report illegal activities such as energy theft and tampering with power infrastructure.”
Reinforcing President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’, Adelabu said resilience and patriotism were essential ingredients needed to overcome national challenges.
He described the Easter season as a time for unity, sacrifice and renewed hope, urging Nigerians to imbibe its core values in their collective push for a greater country.
“May the spirit of Easter inspire hope and solidarity and build a Nigeria where every home enjoys uninterrupted power, and every citizen thrives in an environment of peace and progress,” Adelabu stated.
He expressed optimism that the current power reforms, backed by citizens’ support, would usher in an era of stable electricity, economic growth, and improved quality of life for all.
“Together we shall triumph over obstacles and illuminate our nation’s great future,” he said.
